Why Mike?

Why should you vote for Mike Maciel for City Council?

Trust

For over two decades I served the citizens of Tracy as a police officer.  I was expected to watch over our city, to discourage wrong doing and apprehend law breakers, all the while showing respect for and honoring the rights of every individual.  In this I succeeded.  This community trusted me to carry a firearm and deprive people of their freedom by arresting them if the situation warranted.  I had the authority to take children into protective custody if I believed they were neglected or endangered.  When someone in Tracy faced the crisis of victimization and called for help, I was one of the people that responded.  I never took for granted the level of trust the citizens of Tracy placed in me, and never will.

Independence

I have no agenda other than to make Tracy a better place.  My pro-business views are long held and based my basic belief in a free market system.  I want those who chose to invest in Tracy to enjoy economic success, but they will certainly bear their share of the partnership with the community.  Development should pay its way, and with me on the city council, it will continue to.

Deep Roots

I've lived in the Tracy area for 50 years.  As I grew up I witnessed first hand our City’s growth.  While I very much loved the Tracy of 20-something thousand population, I realize that because of our proximity to the Bay Area and the regional growth that has occurred, Tracy had to evolve.  I know that we can blend the best of our past with a bright future.

Perspective

Prior to my law enforcement career, I was part of Tracy’s agriculture community.  I understand the vital role that agriculture still plays in our town and the problems that farmers and ranchers face as the City expands and changes.  I strongly believe that we should never lose sight of the fact that Tracy was, and still is, a proud farming community.  I want to create an environment that will enable farms to thrive, while supporting responsible development for those who want their land for Tracy's economic future.

History of Service

I was privileged that for 25-years the people of Tracy trusted me and my brothers and sisters in the Police Department to protect our community.  No other candidate has my level of experience or insight into keeping Tracy safe.  As a police officer, I never lost sight of our mission to ensure our citizens a safe and secure place in which to live, work and play.  I am proud to have played a role in fulfilling that mission and as a member of the City Council I will see to it that quality service from the Police and all other City Departments continues to be a high priority.

Team Work

During my military, farming and law enforcement careers, I developed skills in problem-solving, decision-making and, probably most importantly, working with people.  (You cannot effectively do the first two without the third.)  As a council member, I know that not all issues will be decided exactly as I feel they should be.  I believe in working collaboratively to reach solutions that will benefit the greater community, but not in compromising principles.  I will work with my fellow council members to analyze issues, build consensus and move forward to build a better Tracy.

Final Words

If you believe, as I do, that Tracy is headed in the right direction by creating a business-friendly environment and should work even harder to bring jobs and economic opportunities to our community, then you should consider supporting me.

If you believe that we should continue to keep Tracy one of the safest communities in California, then you should consider supporting me.

If you believe that we have wasted enough time and money while still failing to provide our children with adequate recreational facilities, then you should consider supporting me.

If you believe that Tracy is a great town to live and work in, and can be even better, then you should consider supporting me.
