Michael Maciel for Tracy City Council 2008
WELCOME!
My name is Michael Maciel and I am running for a seat on the
Tracy City Council in November. As a resident of the Tracy
area for fifty years and as a member of the Tracy Police
Department for twenty-five years I have witnessed a great deal
of change and growth in our community, which I consider to be
outstanding.
I am proud that during my service with the city I was able to
work with the officers and staff of the Police Department to
make Tracy one of the safest cities in California. As a
member of the City Council I will continue to make public safety
one of our highest priorities.
I want to bring the problem-solving skills and sense of
team-work I developed as part of the Police Department Command
Staff to the City Council to help Tracy deal with the challenges
we currently face.
The November City Council election will be pivotal.
While I support Measure A's provision that only the voters can
change the limits on growth, I do not agree with one of the
incumbents on the ballot who has a history of supporting the
extremist slow-growth activist agenda -- An agenda that is not
in Tracy's long-term best interest.
With the current unsettled state of the economy, I believe
that it is vital for Tracy to attract commercial and industrial
investment to fuel overall economic growth. In my opinion,
the slow-growth message sends the wrong signal to potential
investors and companies looking for a city where their employees
can live, work and play.
Tracy competes with other area communities for economic
opportunities. The recent opening of a Toyota parts
manufacturing plant in Stockton and the soon to open Bass Pro
Shop center in Manteca suggest we are loosing the competition.
We must be willing to explore appropriate incentives to bring
head of household jobs and opportunities to Tracy.
Economic growth is vital to Tracy having the financial
resources to continue the level of services our citizens expect
and deserve - without raising taxes. I believe in a
"business friendly" environment that will encourage commercial,
industrial and residential investment in our town.
Investors should be able to consider projects in Tracy without
having to overcome special interest agendas. As a candidate,
my promises to the voters are few and simple:
- I will always treat members of the community with
respect.
- I will always listen to citizen's views and concerns.
- I will always be fair and objective when analyzing
issues.
- I will always do what is best for Tracy.
These were my personal principles while serving Tracy as
a police officer and they will continue to be as a member of
the City Council.
I think Tracy is a city to be proud of. I'm tired
of those who continually criticize where we are and how we
got here. My only agenda is to continue working to
make Tracy even better.
